Fundamentally, if you want to have a career that you enjoy and has a promising future, you have to be more involved in understanding and determining what you like and don’t like.  You need to figure out what your interests are and pursue what kind of work you like to do.

While I can appreciate that you’re confused, you can’t leave it to others to tell you what’s best for you.  As a working professional, you’re not a kid anymore.  You’re beyond the age of just listening to others telling you that this or that is good for you, or that you should pursue this or that opportunity.  If others are determining what’s best for you and your career, then just resign yourself to living other people’s idea of what your life should be, depending on whatever direction they point you in.
